Bali Visa for US citizens (2026).
Americans are one of Bali's fastest-growing visitor groups — around 300,000 US passport holders arrive each year, from two-week surf trips to six-month remote-work seasons. US citizens are fully eligible for Indonesia's eVOA: no embassy appointment, no interview, issued online in 1–3 working days. The catch for American travellers is distance — there are no direct flights from the mainland US, so a visa mistake discovered at the check-in counter in LAX or JFK is expensive. This page covers the 2026 rules for US passports, in plain English, with prices in dollars.
Question 01
Do US citizens need a visa for Bali?
Yes. US citizens need a visa for Bali in 2026 — the eVOA is the standard choice: apply online before flying, 30 days on entry, extendable once to 60.
American passport holders qualify for the Electronic Visa on Arrival (eVOA), issued online before departure, and the identical Visa on Arrival paid at the Denpasar airport counter. The eVOA is the smarter option from the US: your itinerary involves at least one long-haul connection through Singapore, Taipei, Seoul or Doha, and airlines on that route ask for onward-travel documents at check-in. For stays over 60 days — a remote-work season, a long sabbatical — apply for the C1 Tourist Visa (formerly B211A) before travelling: 60 days on arrival, extendable twice to 180.
Visa options for US passports
eVOA (E-Visa on Arrival) — the default for vacations and trips up to 30 days, extendable once in-country to 60. Government fee IDR 500,000 (about $35), issued in 1–3 working days. C1 Tourist Visa (formerly B211A) — the long-stay option: 60 days on arrival, two extensions, 180 days maximum. Requires an Indonesian sponsor, which our service provides. C2 / D2 Business Visas — for Americans with recurring business in Indonesia: single-entry C2 for one engagement, multi-entry D2 valid 1, 2 or 5 years. KITAS — residence permits for remote workers (E33G), investors (E28A), retirees (E33F) and families. All lodged from our Bali office.
Bali visa cost in dollars (2026)
The eVOA government fee is IDR 500,000 — about $35. Every traveller also pays the IDR 150,000 (~$10) Bali Tourist Levy through the separate Love Bali portal. With our agency fee included, a complete eVOA application for a US passport typically lands between $50 and $90 depending on standard (1–3 working days) or urgent processing. The C1 Tourist Visa runs around $165 in government and sponsor fees. US cards work fine on our checkout — we charge in USD through Stripe and pay Indonesian Immigration from our local account.
How to apply from the US (4 steps)
1. Check your passport — 6+ months' validity beyond arrival and 2 blank pages; renew via the State Department first if you're close. 2. Apply for the eVOA — on the official portal at evisa.imigrasi.go.id, or through our agency for a checked, hands-off application. 3. Pay the Tourist Levy at lovebali.baliprov.go.id before departure. 4. Submit the All Indonesia Declaration Form within 3 days before arrival — its QR code is scanned alongside your eVOA at the e-gates. We send all four steps as one WhatsApp checklist, timed to your flight.
Remote work from Bali on a US passport
Bali is one of the world's biggest remote-work hubs for Americans, and the rules are clearer than most blogs suggest. Working remotely for a US employer or US clients is permitted on the eVOA and the C1 Tourist Visa — what's prohibited is local employment or being paid by an Indonesian company, which requires a Working KITAS (E23). For stays beyond 180 days, the E33G Remote Worker KITAS grants a full year of residence with multi-entry travel, built exactly for this case. US tax residency doesn't change — you remain a US taxpayer — but the E33G keeps your Indonesian immigration status clean for a long stay.
Long stays: sabbaticals, retirement and investing
Americans staying a season use the C1 Tourist Visa (180 days maximum). Retirees aged 60+ qualify for the Retirement KITAS (E33F) — 1-year terms, renewable, with multi-entry travel. Investors who set up or buy into an Indonesian PT PMA company use the Investor KITAS (E28A), valid 1–2 years. And Indonesia's Golden Visa program offers 5 and 10-year residence for larger commitments. Each category has a different document set — we assess which fits in a free consultation before you commit to anything.

Watch-outs
Common mistakes US citizens make.
Pitfall 01
Discovering the visa rule at LAX
There is no visa-free entry for US passports — a rule change many repeat visitors missed. Airlines flying the Asia legs check for an eVOA or onward proof at check-in. Sort the visa the week you book flights, not the week you fly.
Pitfall 02
Forgetting the Tourist Levy
The IDR 150,000 (~$10) levy is paid on a separate portal (Love Bali), not with your visa. Customs at Ngurah Rai scans the QR receipt on arrival. Two minutes online before you fly saves a queue after 24 hours of travel.
Pitfall 03
Passport validity under 6 months
Indonesia enforces 6 months' validity from arrival. US passport renewals can take weeks — check the expiry date before booking and renew first if it's close.
Pitfall 04
Planning 3 months on a 60-day visa
The eVOA cannot be extended past 60 days or converted to a C1 in-country. If your sabbatical might run longer, start with the C1 Tourist Visa — otherwise you're paying for a visa run to Singapore.
Pitfall 05
Assuming remote work needs a work visa
It doesn't — working for a US employer from Bali is fine on the eVOA or C1. Only local Indonesian employment requires a Working KITAS. Don't pay for a category you don't need.

Ask on WhatsApp- Do US citizens need a visa for Bali in 2026?
Yes. Americans need a visa to enter Indonesia — visa-free entry is not available for US passports. Most US travellers use the eVOA: applied online, issued in 1–3 working days, valid 30 days and extendable once to 60.
- How much is a Bali visa for Americans?
The eVOA government fee is IDR 500,000 — about $35. Add the mandatory IDR 150,000 (~$10) Bali Tourist Levy. With our agency fee, a complete eVOA application typically costs between $50 and $90 depending on processing speed.
- Can Americans get a visa on arrival in Bali?
Yes — US passports qualify for the airport Visa on Arrival and the online eVOA. Same visa, same fee. We recommend the eVOA: your route to Bali involves a long-haul connection, and airlines on those legs increasingly want visa confirmation at check-in.
- How long can US citizens stay in Bali?
30 days on the eVOA, extendable once to 60 days total. The C1 Tourist Visa (formerly B211A) covers 60 days on arrival with two in-country extensions — 180 days maximum without leaving Indonesia.
- Can I work remotely from Bali as an American?
Yes — working for a US employer or US clients is permitted on the eVOA and C1 Tourist Visa. Local employment by an Indonesian company requires a Working KITAS. For year-long stays, the E33G Remote Worker KITAS grants 12 months of residence with multi-entry travel.
- Are there direct flights from the US to Bali?
No direct flights from the mainland US. Typical routings connect through Singapore (Singapore Airlines), Taipei (EVA/China Airlines), Seoul (Korean Air), Tokyo, Doha or Hong Kong — around 20–26 hours door to door. Your visa should be confirmed before the first leg.
- What documents do Americans need for the Bali eVOA?
A passport valid 6+ months with two blank pages, a return or onward ticket, your first accommodation address, a recent plain-background photo, and an email address. Proof of funds is only required for the C1 Tourist Visa, not the eVOA.
- Do American children need their own Bali visa?
Yes. Every traveller — including infants — needs their own eVOA, own Tourist Levy payment and own Declaration Form. We consolidate family applications into one WhatsApp thread and one payment.
- Can Americans retire in Bali?
Yes. US citizens aged 60+ qualify for the Retirement KITAS (E33F) — renewable 1-year terms with multi-entry travel. Larger budgets can use Indonesia's Golden Visa for 5 or 10-year residence. We lodge both from our Bali office.
- What happens if I overstay my Bali visa?
Indonesian Immigration charges IDR 1,000,000 (~$65) per day of overstay, collected when you leave. Overstays beyond 60 days risk deportation and re-entry bans. Extensions cost a fraction of the fine — we handle them remotely before your deadline.
