Business visa or tourist visa for Bali?

The answer surprises most travellers: business meetings are allowed on the tourist eVOA, conferences, negotiations, signing contracts, up to 30 days, USD 40 all-in. A dedicated C2 or D2 business visa is for longer engagements, hands-on activities like audits and training, or frequent trips. And local employment always needs a Working KITAS, no visit visa covers it.

Business vs tourist FAQ

The line between visiting and working.

  • Can I do business meetings in Bali on a tourist visa?

Yes. The eVOA, technically a tourism visa, explicitly permits business meetings, conferences, negotiations and site visits for stays up to 30 days. Most executives flying to Bali for a week of meetings need nothing more. What no visit visa allows is local employment or receiving payment from an Indonesian company.

  • What is the difference between a Bali business visa and a tourist visa?

Permitted activities and repeat-travel convenience. Tourist visas (eVOA, C1) cover holidays plus light business like meetings. Business visas (C2 single-entry, D2 multi-entry) add activities like audits, inspections and training, and the D2 covers unlimited trips for 1–5 years. Neither allows local employment, that's a Working KITAS.

  • When do I actually need the C2 business visa?

Three cases: your engagement runs past 30 days (the eVOA's limit for a single business trip), your activities go beyond meetings, audits, quality inspections, staff training, after-sales service, or your sponsor/client in Indonesia requires a business-classified visa for compliance reasons.

  • When is the D2 multiple-entry visa worth it?

From roughly three trips a year. One D2 application covers unlimited entries for 1, 2 or 5 years at 60 days per visit, no reapplying, no per-trip fees, no processing wait before each flight. Investors, regional managers and founders with Indonesian operations are the typical users.

  • Can I work in Bali on a business visa?

No visit visa, tourist or business, permits employment in Indonesia or receiving a salary from an Indonesian entity. That requires the E23 Working KITAS, sponsored by the employing company. Working remotely for a foreign employer is fine on any visit visa. Enforcement against illegal work is real.

  • How much does a Bali business visa cost?

The C2 single-entry business visa is USD 200 all-in with our service, including the corporate sponsor. The D2 multiple-entry starts around IDR 5.8 million for the 1-year version. For a short meetings trip, the eVOA at USD 40 all-in is usually all you need, we tell you honestly which one your trip requires.

  • What documents does a business visa need beyond a tourist visa?

Two additions: a short CV outlining your role and planned activities in Indonesia, and a corporate sponsor or guarantor, which we provide through our partner companies if you don't have your own PT PMA. Passport validity requirements also rise to 18 months for multi-year visas.
